Read More (About Taylor)W.A. Taylor, Sr. founded automotive and repair company Taylor Machine Works in Louisville, Mississippi, in 1927. A decade later, Taylor developed a timber skidder that was later converted into a mobile skidder and loader called “the Logger’s Dream.” The company followed up that release with the Pasture Dream, a machine that enabled farmers to simultaneously seed and fertilize fields without first preparing the seedbed. In the early 1950s, Taylor entered the material-handling equipment market with the introduction of the Yardster forklift, a machine designed to carry heavy materials such as concrete, steel, and lumber.
In the mid-1960s, Taylor Machine Works looked to the future and began investing in modern tools and establishing “one of the most advanced machine shops in the South.” This allowed the company to begin developing agricultural equipment, logging equipment, and heavy-duty trailers in addition to material-handling equipment. The move also enabled Taylor to expand beyond Mississippi and establish factory-direct locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wyoming.
Taylor is known primarily for its extensive lineup of Big Red pneumatic tire and cushion tire forklifts, rough-terrain forklifts, mast container handlers, and reach stackers, as well as tow tractors, platform trucks, and other specialty lift equipment. These machines range in maximum lift capacity from 8,000 pounds to 125,000 pounds (3,628 to 56,699 kilograms), making them well-suited for a wide range of applications, including construction, rail work, and port operations.
