Both types run on battery-electric power and have maximum lift capacities ranging from 2,500 to 6,000 pounds (roughly 1,100 to 2,700 kilograms). They are known for their superior high-reach capabilities, increased vertical stability for safety, and efficient maneuverability for navigating narrow aisles and tight corners.

Stand-up and reach forklifts are used in warehousing, food processing and storage, manufacturing, distribution, retail, and other applications. There are a few subtypes of stand-up and reach forklifts that are distinguished by certain specific features and are referred to as “stand-up counterbalance forklifts,” “stand-up rider forklifts,” or “fork trucks.”

Distinguishing Features Of Stand-Up & Reach Forklifts

Although forklifts in these categories often have overlapping features (indeed, some forklifts combine the dominant sit/stand and reach features of both types), the primary feature that differentiates a reach forklift from a typical forklift is that there is a telescopic or scissor mechanism that allows the reach forklift to lift objects from higher up and farther away. Capabilities include:

• High lift heights - Reach trucks, also known as “reach truck forklifts” or “high-reach forklifts,” have telescopic or scissor masts (pantograph masts) that extend significantly higher than on stand-up models. This allows for safe and efficient storage and retrieval of pallets from elevated warehouse racks.
• Narrow-aisle operation and maneuverability - Unlike bulkier stand-up forklifts, reach trucks are designed for maneuvering in warehouse aisles with limited space. Their compact design and tight turning radius minimize wasted space and maximize storage capacity.
• Operator comfort and safety - Many reach trucks offer ergonomic features like a stand-up platform with ample legroom or a comfortable sit-down option. Advanced models often include safety features like overload protection and load stability systems for secure handling of goods at high levels.
