Read More (About Still)Hans Still founded Still in Hamburg, Germany, in 1920 at just 22 years old. Still got his start repairing electric motors, but soon he developed a lighting station called the Matador in 1920 and later a series of portable generators in 1924. By 1933, Still was producing generators with capacities of up to 10 kilowatts. In the aftermath of World War II, Still was forced to rebuild roughly half of its manufacturing space and again turn to repairing electric motors and transformers. Focus eventually shifted to such vehicles as the EK 2000 electric trolley in 1945 and the Mule-mobile three-wheel tractor in 1948.
Although Still continued to develop electric vehicles until 1969, the company established its future in 1949 as a leader in the lift equipment market with the release of the EGS 1000, Still’s first forklift truck. The company followed up with the clear-view mast in the 1970s, an innovation that improved operator visibility. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Still expanded into other European countries as part of an expansion, and fully established itself as a global brand by the 2000s with locations in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and elsewhere. Still became a part of the KION Group in 2006 along with Linde and OM Voltas, two other popular forklift manufacturers.
