    About Yale

Founded in 1844 following Linus Yale Jr.’s invention of the pin-tumbler cylinder lock, Yale entered the materials handling business in 1875. Yale Materials Handling Corporation’s lineup of access and lift equipment includes high-capacity electric, gas, LP-gas, and diesel-powered forklift trucks that range in capacity from 19,000 to 36,000 pounds (8,618 to 16,329 kilograms).

Yale also designs and manufacturers stand up / reach forklift trucks, order pickers, very narrow aisle forklift trucks, pallet jacks, walkie stackers, three- and four-wheel forklift trucks, tow tractors, and pneumatic tire and cushion tire forklift trucks. The company’s internal combustion forklift trucks include LPG and diesel models organized in MX and Veracitor VX series; Yale designed the MX series for standard lift applications and the Veracitor VX range for maximum productivity and economic fuel consumption.

    A Long History Of Lifts

Although Yale Materials Handling Corporation is one of the largest and most well-known manufacturers of materials handling equipment, Linus Yale Jr. actually founded Yale in 1844 after inventing the pin-tumbler cylinder lock. Roughly two decades later, Yale and Henry Towne formed the Yale Lock Manufacturing Company, which later became Yale and Towne Manufacturing Co.

The company entered the materials handling business in 1875 and in 1920 launched a battery-powered low-lift platform truck. High-lift platform trucks, tow tractors, and an early lifting truck with tilting forks would follow. After expanding into Europe and Japan in the 1930s, the company added gas, LPG, and diesel-powered forklift trucks in 1950. The 1960s would see Yale undergo the first of several mergers and acquisitions when it merged with Eaton Manufacturing.

Eventually, North American Coal Corporation (NACCO) acquired Yale in 1985 and later the Hyster Company in 1989 to form NACCO Materials Handling Corp. NACCO spun that company off in 2012 as Hyster-Yale Materials Handling. Yale Materials Handling is now a division of Hyster-Yale Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyster-Yale Materials Handling.

    The Operation

Yale claims a dealer network numbering more than 150 dealers worldwide that serve customers on every continent. The company also has nearly 20 sales, marketing, administrative, manufacturing, and assembly operations located worldwide. Among those operations are 12 production facilities that output complete models and components. Yale notes that its lift trucks are generally assembled in the region that they’re sold in.
