Clark Debuts New Walkie & Rider Pallet Jacks
Clark Material Handling has just reported the launch of its new electric pallet jacks for the manufacturing and warehousing sectors.
The HWXE is a walkie/rider unit with an unloaded travel speed of up to 8.4 mph (13.5 km/h), while the more sedate PWXE walkie model can travel up to 4 mph (6.4 km/h). Both are available in a “30” designation with a load capacity of 6,000 pounds (2,720 kilograms), as well as in a “40” variant that can lift up to 8,000 pounds (3,630 kilograms).
"Clark continues to lead the industry with innovative ideas, concepts, and products for the material handling sector," says Clark Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Scott Johnson. "These highly maneuverable, flexible, and versatile new products are just one of the latest innovations we’re bringing to our customers. Designed for and around the operator, we’re very excited to share our new HWXE and PWXE with our dealers and end-users."
Improvements
Clark says it spent a full year designing and testing the new HWXE and PWXE products. There’s more room on the HWXE for the operator to ride, and better padding on both series for user comfort.
The steering/control handle has also had a redesign. The low-effort handle comes with either a twist grip or a thumb-operated control, with a switch to toggle between high- and low-speed ranges. Clark says that the PWXE’s low-mounted steering handle increases the user’s leverage.
The manufacturer also tweaked the controller settings to improve acceleration on the new pallet jacks. It bestowed a larger drive unit upon the pair, as well as a bigger drive wheel. The result is quiet operation and a low-maintenance lifespan.
Product Details
The 24-volt electric HWXE and PWXE both use an enclosed AC traction motor and control. Suitable for food-processing environments, the enclosed motor is protected from dust contamination and requires no brush or commutator service. The thermally protected motor and control are also significantly less likely to burn out during a stall, Clark says.
The pallet jacks can regenerate electricity from a change of direction, the release of the accelerator, and an up or down motion of the tiller. Their brakes are electromagnetic.
The 48- by 27-inch (1,219- by 686-millimeter) forks used in the new HWXE and PWXE feature entry and exit rollers, tapered slides, and steel toes to make pallets easier to handle. All pivot points are greasable and use extreme-duty bronze bushings in key areas.
