Clark Material Handling and Battery Builders, Inc. of Chicago, Illinois, are now partners in the material handling industry. BBI will supply Clark’s network of dealerships with a new line of batteries focused on competitive pricing, predictable delivery lead times, and industry-class service life. The new battery family is 100% recyclable and low-maintenance, according to Clark, and is backed with a five-year warranty.

BBI has manufactured lead-acid batteries for forklifts and other material handling machinery since 1950, whereas Clark’s lift truck roots date back to 1917. Both companies make their products in the United States.

"We listened to our dealers regarding battery pricing, availability, and quality," says Clark’s North American Sales Manager Charlie Chwasz. “Clark researched the industry and has determined that BBI Battery provides a superior product that meets and exceeds our dealer and customer requirements. We are pleased to have BBI as one of our preferred partners.” Clark also sells technologically advanced chargers for its electrically powered lift products.

    Building Better Batteries

BBI’s battery-manufacturing facility is completely automated, which results in top quality for its products, the company says. The Midwestern manufacturer also sells microprocessor-controlled charging equipment to maintain its batteries the correct way. BBI chargers do a refresh charge every 12 hours, and can be set on a timer to automatically start charging up to nine hours after connection. They also shut down automatically when there’s a problem with a battery that continued charging could exacerbate.

Beyond lift equipment, BBI also sells batteries for ice resurfacing machines (e.g. Zambonis), as well as for alternative energy storage applications. The company also deals in battery handling equipment and single-point watering systems for lead-acid cell maintenance.
