Skyjack To Bring A92.20-Compliant Lifts, New 63-Foot Rough-Terrain Model To CONEXPO

Skyjack plans to show a “full fleet” of its new, ANSI A92.20-compliant aerial work platforms/personnel lifts at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG trade show March 10 to 14 in Las Vegas. The manufacturer will also highlight some new updates to its DC scissor lifts, rough-terrain scissor lifts, and boom lifts.

“We’ve been planning for the new ANSI standards since they were originally announced,” says Skyjack Product Manager Barry Greenaway. The company is already providing ANSI A92.20-compliant lifts to rental firms.

“Using the new ANSI standards as a baseline, we also looked at what we could do to enhance our machines to lower the overall cost of ownership for our customers and create a more globally aligned range,” says Skyjack’s vice president of marketing, Malcolm Early. “Our primary focus was on DC scissor lifts, as they’re the highest-volume machine in any rental fleet. We then shifted to a newly redesigned range of full-size rough-terrain scissor lifts, and updated portions of our boom lineup as well.”

    Rough-Terrain Models

Skyjack has also extended its family of rough-terrain scissor lift with a new 63-foot (19-meter) platform height model. The new SJ9263 RT has a remarkable lift capacity of 1,200 pounds (544 kilograms).

“Offering a product within the 60-ft class expands the application opportunities for rental companies without having to take that jump, in both cost and platform height, to the 90-ft-plus classes,” Greenaway explains.

    Other models in Skyjack’s rough-terrain range include the 33-ft (10-m) SJ9233, the 43-ft (13.1-m) SJ9243, and the 53-ft (16.2-m) SJ9253 RT. All have four-wheel drive and 72- by 172-inch (1.8- by 4.36-m) working platforms.

    A92.20 Explained

The new ANSI/SAIA A92–2018 standard, developed by the American National Standards Institute and the Scaffold and Access Industry Association, aims to improve the safe design and use of mobile elevated work platforms such as boom and scissor lifts. It has three parts. A92.20 involves the design of such lifts, and it’s this part of the A92 standard that Skyjack is addressing with its new, compliant products. A92.22 is about the safe use of aerial work platforms, while A92.24 covers training criteria for operators and maintenance personnel.
