Lift manufacturer Kalmar has accepted orders from the German container hinterland logistics operator Contargo Group for a total of 10 Gloria reach stackers. They will perform empty and semi-laden container handling duties in a variety of ports: three Glorias in Ludwigshafen and Mannheim, six in Wörth and Speyer, and one in Gustavsburg. All of the machines meet EU Stage V emission standards and are slated for delivery in Q4 of this year.

“We have a long-standing and successful relationship with Kalmar, so it was a natural choice to turn to them when selecting new equipment to expand our fleet,” says Contargo Senior Technical Manager Markus Stengel. “We have been highly satisfied with the local service support for our existing machines and are looking forward to bringing the new ones online in December.”

“This order is a reflection of the high level of trust that Contargo places in both our equipment and our local support services, which help to keep the machines running reliably around the clock,” says Kalmar Germany Sales Manager Peter Zücker. “We are delighted to be able to continue supporting Contargo in maintaining their position as a leading provider of logistics services.”

Kalmar manufactures Gloria reach stackers to carry containers and slinged loads of up to 13.2 tons (12 metric tons). The “Generation G” machines can carry a container end-on, or lengthwise, to fit into sheds or under low doors. The Glorias are also capable of carrying containers at full width or even turned at a 45-degree angle. They are available in 19.7-, 21.3-, 23-, and 24.6-foot (6,000-, 6,500-, 7,000-, and 7,500-millimeter) wheelbases.

The operator of a Gloria can enjoy excellent visibility through a curved windscreen and a comfortable, adjustable seat in the EGO cabin, Kalmar says. A Head Up display provides color-coded feedback on the load status, while a new joystick with a gear knob makes it easier to change gears in a safe, smooth manner. The patented steering wheel can tilt to the side per user preference. Electronic climate control comes standard.

The Gloria also comes standard with a redundant, self-correcting CAN-bus electrical control system and comprehensive monitoring capabilities. Other uptime-enhancing features Kalmar designed into the Generation G reach stackers include easy maintenance access and long service intervals. Glorias also benefit from LED lighting and a bevy of standard and optional fuel conservation features. Further options include tire pressure monitoring, the Kalmar Personal Proximity System, and more.
