Six Kalmar Forklifts To Serve At Terminal Pacifico Sur In Chile

Terminal Pacifico Sur (TPS) in Valparaíso, Chile, is one of the busiest maritime facilities in the country, and port services provider Ultraport recently ordered six Kalmar medium forklift trucks to handle steel products there. These specialized forklifts will be fitted with a coil ram to handle heavy-duty steel coils, as well as the Kalmar Reverse Warning System combining a camera with ultrasound detection technology for better visibility and increased safety when reversing.

“We have been very satisfied with the quality, reliability, and safety of the Kalmar equipment in our fleet, and have received excellent support from the local Kalmar team in Chile over the years,” says Ultraport Deputy Maintenance Manager Cristian Rivadeneira. “We are looking forward to taking delivery of the new forklifts, which will greatly enhance our steel-handling capabilities.”

Kalmar Medium Forklifts

With a lift capacity between 22,000 and 40,000 pounds (10,000 to 18,000 kilograms), Kalmar’s DCG 100 to 180 forklift trucks are designed to work in demanding applications like moving steel and wood. To optimize lifting performance, Kalmar adds electric and hydraulic systems for quicker response and increased load control. And when combined with load-sensing hydraulic pumps, Kalmar says its medium forklifts reduce fuel consumption by as much as 18% vs. previous-generation Kalmar forklifts.

Connection To Kalmar Insight

Ultraport will be able to monitor their new forklifts with Kalmar Insight, a telematics and performance management tool that provides machine tracking and an overview of daily operations. Kalmar medium forklifts feature a redundant CAN bus to monitor the condition and performance of the engine, control units, gearbox, and valves, among other components.
