Kalmar Tracker is a new, automated solution that gathers and presents real-time information on shipping containers in a way that’s both faster and less prone to errors than logging them by hand. Systems installed on Kalmar reach stacker shipping container handlers collect data such as the container’s ID information, its weight, its load centricity, and its location. The data can then be accessed via the web-based Kalmar Insight performance management tool, which also provides operational information on Kalmar machines in the fleet.

“Kalmar Tracker is a result of our commitment to continuously develop innovative new tools that will help our customers to operate more safely and efficiently,” says Kalmar VP of Counterbalanced Container Handlers, Alf-Gunnar Karlgren. “This solution reduces the workload and increases safety for equipment operators and provides valuable data to help terminal operators streamline their processes, saving them time and money.”

Kalmar recently announced the launch of Kalmar Tracker at its New Era for Logistics online event, which was held December 15th, 2021.

    Three Options

Kalmar customers can select the Kalmar Tracker option or options that fit their needs. The first is Container ID Recognition, which uses high-resolution digital cameras on the reach stacker’s spreader to scan each container’s identification. The data can be shared with the shipping terminal’s operating system and other systems using Kalmar’s open application programming interfaces (APIs).

Container Weighing is another Kalmar Tracker option for reach stackers equipped with the Kalmar Load Measurement System. As the reach stacker automatically weighs a container, it attaches the verified gross mass data to the container’s ID per recommendations from the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). Kalmar Tracker will also alert the reach stacker operator if the container’s load needs to be repositioned or if the container is too unbalanced to handle safely.

A later update will add a radar system option for tracking the locations of containers in a yard. The Container Locator option will log each container’s row and height in the stacks, along with its overall position.

Find The Right Kalmar Reach Stacker

Kalmar produces several lines of reach stacker container handlers including the Eco, Electric, Essential, Gloria, and Super Gloria series.
