Kalmar recently unveiled a new series of mobile equipment solutions, the Kalmar Robotic Portfolio, that the company says will kick off a new era of logistics, enhancing safety and eco-efficiency without hindering productivity.

    New Customer Segments

Kalmar is a Cargotec-owned company that manufactures electric and diesel forklift trucks, straddle and shuttle carriers, terminal tractors, yard cranes, reach stackers, and other material-handling equipment. Its new robotic portfolio includes the Kalmar RoboTractor, RoboLifter, RoboStacker, and RoboHandler. Prototypes are already being tested at sites around the world. Kalmar’s goal with the portfolio is to make automation and robotics technologies available to ports and terminals and new customer segments such as distribution centers and heavy logistics.

The portfolio will enhance Kalmar’s current Kalmar One Automation System with autonomous, self-driven solutions that can operate in mixed-traffic environments. Kalmar notes that the robotized solutions don’t require a heavy infrastructure investment because intelligence is moved from central systems to the equipment. Additionally, the flexibility and scalability of robotized solutions makes them well-suited for smaller equipment fleets, Kalmar says.

    Saving Lives

Kalmar will build all the equipment that comes out of the robotic portfolio on a standardized platform. Doing so will make the equipment easy and cost-effective to deploy when adding in support from cloud technologies.

“In our industry, someone loses their life on the job every five days,” says Kalmar Vice President of Technology Lasse Eriksson. “We want to help our customers to keep their people safe and reduce their impact on the environment with cutting-edge equipment solutions that make no compromises in terms of safety, sustainability, and productivity. Our intelligent and flexible Robotic Portfolio is designed to be easy to deploy, maintain, and scale for customers across a wide variety of segments. With this new portfolio, we are laying the foundations for a future driven by fully autonomous, unmanned material handling with zero accidents, zero emissions, and maximum productivity. We are keen to continue the interactions with our customers and collaborate on pilot projects with customers who would benefit from these future solutions in their operations.”
