Snorkel Debuts 66-Foot 600AJ & Electric 600AJN Rough-Terrain Articulating Boom Lifts

    Posted On: March 23, 2023

Snorkel showed off its 600AJN fully electric boom lift for the first time at ConExpo last week in Las Vegas, Nevada. The articulating boom lift has a narrow, 7-foot width that helps it fit into constricted work areas. (Photo courtesy of Snorkel.)

Snorkel introduced a pair of four-wheel-drive, articulating boom lifts with 66-foot (20.1-meter) working heights at the recent ConExpo-Con/Agg trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The rough-terrain, zero-tailswing 600AJ and 600AJN both have maximum safe working load (SWL) platform capacities of 600 pounds (272 kilograms) and max restricted platform capacities of 1,000 lbs (454 kg). However, the electric 600AJN is just 7 ft (2.1 m) wide compared to the 8.1-ft (2.5-m)-wide, diesel-powered 600AJ, making it suitable for trade show setup and other applications with narrower machine requirements.

    A Tale Of Two Snorkels

The new Snorkel 600AJ and 600AJN come with proportional controls and a jib approximately 5.5 ft (1.68 m) in length. Both can drive slowly at full height and work in winds of up to 28 mph (45 km/h). They have a 45% gradeability rating.

The 600AJ is a 24,800-lb (11,250-kg) model powered by a 65-horsepower (48.5-kilowatt) Kubota diesel engine with Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V emissions ratings. It can operate on DC emergency power if necessary.

The 600AJ has a remarkable 44 ft (13.4 m) of horizontal reach and 21 ft (6.4 m) of clearance height at maximum outreach. It has a larger platform than its 600AJN brother at 8 by 3 ft (2.4 by 0.9 m), as well as greater ground clearance at 13.5 inches (343 millimeters). Snorkel says the 600AJ excels at “up-and-over” tasks. Its outstanding working envelope and 135-degree jib arc (as compared to the 600AJN’s 75-degree jib arc) help the 600AJ to reach tricky spots without moving its carrier.

    Battery-Electric With Backup Power

Snorkel’s 600AJN is a fully electric boom lift with high-capacity 48-volt DC batteries that can completely recharge in 6 hours. If the lift needs to operate beyond its battery capacity, an onboard, dual-fuel (gasoline/liquid petroleum gas) 23-HP (17.2-kW) Kubota engine and a 6-kW DC generator can provide regeneration for additional duty cycles.

The 27,000-lb (12,250-kg) 600AJN is equipped with a double-articulated boom and offers 6 more inches (152 mm) of horizontal reach and max outreach clearance than the 600AJ. The 600AJN has a 6- by 3-ft (1.8- by 0.9-m) platform and 9.75 in. (248 mm) of ground clearance.

Along with its two-wheel, four-wheel, and crab steering modes, the 600AJN has a new pivot-steering mode for top maneuverability. The lift’s much tighter turning radiuses of 5.5 ft (1.68 m) inside and 11 ft (3.35 m) outside compare to the diesel-powered 600AJ’s inside turn radius of 10.2 ft (3.1 m) and an outside radius of 17.1 ft (5.2 m).
