Manitou Refreshes MTA Range Of Telescopic Handlers, Launches 5 New Models
With a brand-new cab, better performance, and a lower cost of ownership, Manitou’s new MTA telehandlers provide a variety of upgrades over the previous-generation MTA Series IV units. Manitou announced five new MTA models at this year’s ConExpo: the 642, 842, 1055, 1242, and 1255.
“The new piston pump and flow sharing system improves smoothness and accuracy, and the combined hydraulic movements provide greater efficiency for increased productivity,” says Manitou U.S. Telehandler Product Line Manager, Steve Kiskunas. “The new transmission’s automatic mode offers greater flexibility and optimum torque with less operator fatigue, with the option to switch to standard powershift transmission at any time.”
New MTA Telehandler Specs
The MTA 642 is the starting point for the new lineup, offering a lift capacity of 6,000 pounds (2,722 kilograms) and a max lift height of 42.5 feet (13 meters). The MTA 1255 is Manitou’s new flagship MTA model with a 12,000-lb (5,443-kg) lift capacity and a 55.6-ft (17-m) lift height. Buyers interested in the MTA 842 and MTA 1055, which offer respective lift capacities of 8,000 lbs (3,629 kg) and 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg), can choose between models with a 75-horsepower (56-kilowatt) or 127-HP (95-kW) engine.
Improvements Across The Line
The new MTA telehandlers include features like an automatic parking brake and automatic transmission, and there’s a new in-cab display to improve operator control. Manitou also redesigned the cab to increase visibility and reconfigured the engine compartment to simplify maintenance.
“Design innovations include easier access to the engine, reducing preventive maintenance costs by 8.7% compared to the previous range,” says Kiskunas. “Manitou has also worked on reducing TCO with more robust components for better residual value.”
