    About Genie

    Genie GS2669RT Rough-Terrain Scissor Lift

Genie still makes the type of product that gave the company its name back in the late 1960s: a material handling lift operated by the “magic in the bottle,” compressed air. Today, of course, the Redmond, Washington, lift manufacturer is known far and wide for its impressive variety of lifts of all kinds.

    Genie's Origins

It was 1966 when Bud Bushnell bought the manufacturing rights to a pneumatic material handling lift, and began selling his version called “the Genie.” In 1974, after a suggestion at a trade show, Bushnell invented the Teletower portable personnel lift for maintenance and other aerial access needs. The telescopic Z-lift, Genie’s first self-propelled boom, followed in 1984.

The rental market helped the company to thrive and gave it feedback for product improvements. The latter led Genie to start manufacturing scissor lifts in 1997. In the early 2000s, Genie debuted its high-reach S125 telescopic super boom and its Z135 articulated counterpart.

Terex acquired the family-owned Genie Industries in 2002 and renamed it Terex Aerial Work Platforms; however, the company still brands its many products with the recognizable Genie name, including telehandlers that came with the new owner. The lift manufacturer currently has about 4,500 employees and a presence in 80 countries.

    Lifts Of All Kinds

Genie has become a go-to brand where there’s a need to lift personnel, tools, and/or building materials. From maintenance to order fulfillment to construction applications, you’ll see the familiar Genie blue on personnel lifts, telehandlers, scissor lifts, and boom lifts.

The company’s scissor lifts are available in both slab scissor lift and rough-terrain scissor lift configurations. Its boom lifts, available in telescopic, articulating, and towable varieties, suit a broad range of aerial access scenarios. In addition, Genie makes add-on lift attachments and telehandler attachments including panel cradles, user protection mechanisms, and an Expo Installer for hanging large banners and signage for trade shows and the like.

Genie products are powered by a number of systems, as appropriate. These include diesel motors, electric batteries (including Lithium-ion), and bi-energy (electric with a diesel generator motor).
