Slab Scissor Lifts
Available in slab (smooth-floor) and rough terrain versions, scissor lifts provide a large, stable work platform for workers, tools, and materials doing overhead jobs such as replacing lights, cleaning, HVAC maintenance, and more.
Read More (About Scissor Lifts)Scissor lifts are popular mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) or aerial work platforms, easily recognized by their distinctive crisscrossing steel scissor lift mechanism. Scissor lifts provide a stable and efficient means of raising and lowering workers, tools, and materials vertically on a spacious platform.

Scissor lifts are commonly used across a wide range of industries and settings, including construction, factories, warehouses, retail spaces, and more. Their versatility makes them ideal for performing tasks such as replacing lights, fire sprinkler system maintenance, duct cleaning, construction, painting, inventory management, camera installation, and various other types of elevated work.
Scissor lifts offer a unique set of capabilities that are distinct from those of boom lifts, bucket lifts, and personnel lifts. Here are some of their advantages:
While boom lifts offer greater platform heights and horizontal outreach, scissor man lifts excel at providing a large, stable platform for tasks directly overhead.
Most scissor lifts are slab models designed for use on flat, level surfaces, such as a concrete floor. Slab scissor lifts often have solid, non-marking tires to protect floors, which makes them a good option for working in gymnasiums, for example. Many smaller slab models are powered by batteries for indoor work requiring low noise and zero emissions.
Rough terrain scissor lifts, or all-terrain man lifts, are designed to work on unpaved ground, such as outdoors on construction sites. They primarily use internal combustion engines for greater performance and fast refueling.
Rough terrain models usually have off-road features such as four-wheel drive, knobby tires, and sometimes traction control to help them overcome challenging surface conditions. Their greater ground clearance and higher gradeability ratings help them negotiate slopes and broken terrain, while their beefy outrigger supports provide stable, level operation on uneven ground.
There are several primary considerations to bear in mind when you’re evaluating a scissor lift:
The market offers a variety of scissor lifts to match different jobsite requirements. Compact and midsize models, including lifts on the low end of the platform height spectrum, often run on electric battery power. Their low noise and lack of exhaust emissions make them ideal for indoor work and operation in noise-sensitive locations.
The majority of internal combustion-powered scissor lifts are medium-to-large rough terrain units powered by diesel engines. However, some models use gasoline, propane/liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), or both in a dual-fuel configuration.
Scissor lifts with engines generally provide greater lifting capacity and platform height and are often preferred for outdoor and heavier-duty jobs. A few models, such as Snorkel lift models ending in “BE,” have bi-energy capability to allow the user to switch between battery power for indoor tasks and engine power for more demanding jobs outside.
Most slab scissor lifts have two-wheel drive (2WD), while most but not all rough terrain models have 4WD, sometimes with traction control. Some manufacturers offer units with four-wheel steering for a tighter turn radius and greater maneuverability, including crab mode (driving sideways) and circle mode (turning in place).
Several scissor lift producers, such as Almac and Fronteq, even offer models with rubber tracks.
