Earlier this week, Oshkosh-owned company JLG introduced a new 19-foot (5.79-meter) all-electric DaVinci AE1932 Scissor Lift that notably uses zero hydraulics. JLG designed the lift for jobsites operating under tight environmental regulations, such as data center floors. In a nod to the AE1932’s namesake, JLG bills the scissor lift as a “masterpiece of advanced technology,” noting that it fully optimized every component to help save up to 70% energy usage over standard scissor lifts.

    An Energetic Descension

The AE1932’s optimized design only requires one lithium-ion battery to operate, and it can fully charge in under 3.5 hours (three times faster than standard lifts), has a 10-year expected lifespan, and should never need to be replaced, JLG says. Just a 5-minute battery boost provides enough juice to drive 100 feet (30.48 m) and still load it. Elsewhere, thanks to a lift system that replaces a hydraulic cylinder design with one using an electromechanical lift actuator, the DaVinci AE1932 is also the industry’s first unit able to recover energy as the platform descends, JLG says.

The new, 19-foot all-electric Davinci AE1932’s single lithium-ion battery can charge fully in less than 3.5 hours. A five-minute charge provides enough power to drive the lift 100 feet and enough torque to load it. (Photo courtesy of JLG.)

Shashank Bhatia, JLG senior director of engineering for mobile elevating work platforms, says that while there are plenty of battery-powered and electric scissor lifts available, their use of hydraulic cylinders for actuation means they all have the potential for messy hydraulic oil spills. “JLG continues to push the envelope in innovation around the entire construction ecosystem, from our rental partners to jobsites,” Bhatia says. “This new JLG all-electric machine unlocks new possibilities and applications where these types of machines could not be used in the past due to concerns surrounding leaks.”

    Performance & Specs

The DaVinci AE1932 has a 606-pound (275-kilogram) indoor/outdoor weight capacity, a 25% gradeability rating, and a 4-mph (6.4-km/h) travel speed said to be twice as fast as traditional scissors. The lift comes standard with JLG Mobile Control technology, which lets operators perform driving, steering, and loading functions from a mobile device. Operators can also view diagnostic data about the battery and charge system via the DavinciGo app.
